Deon Tresvant Named Best Sixth Man in
Big West Conference
Irvine, Calif. - To no one's surprise, Cal State Northridge junior
guard Deon Tresvant has claimed the Best Sixth Man award in a vote of
the Big West coaches.
Tresvant has personified instant offense for the Matadors this season.
Tresvant ranks tenth in the Big West in scoring (14.0 ppg), third in
three-pointers made (82, #2 for a single season at Cal State
Northridge) and seventh in the Big West in three-point percentage
(.416).
Tresvant hit seven treys on his way to a career-best 31 points in a
come-from-behind 88-84 win at UC Santa Barbara (1/5/08) and made six
three-pointers in the second half in a win at UC Riverside (1/16/08).
A true sixth man who did not start in the 29 games he has played in
this year, Tresvant is attempting to become the first Matador reserve
to lead the team in scoring in the 50 years of Matador basketball.
Tresvant is the second Sixth Man Award winner in Matador annals
(Lionel Benjamin - 2002-03).
Other Big West Men's Basketball All-Specialty Award winners were Frank
Robinson of Cal State Fullerton who won Defensive Player of the Year,
while Chris Devine of UC Santa Barbara and Christian Soto of UC
Riverside shared the Best Hustle award.
The awards were voted on by the conference's nine head coaches, who
were not allowed to vote for their own players. This is the eighth
straight year the Big West has handed out the All-Specialty Team
awards.
Tresvant will help lead the Matadors when they aim for the Big West
Tournament on Friday in the conference semifinals . |
